LEAD CHEF / COOK VACANCY
We are currently recruiting a Lead Chef / Cook to take ownership of the food operation at our new purpose-built Community Hub based in Crossroads, East Ayrshire. The hub will open soon, and this is a great opportunity for you to make your mark on a brand-new kitchen and work for a forward-thinking charity with food at the heart of everything they do. The kitchen will service a café, farm shop, community/event space and educational cookery classes.
The lead Chef / Cook is vital in the overall success of the kitchen operation, therefore you will have experience and working knowledge within a similar role and ideally will be located within Ayrshire as this is a community project working and supporting the local area.
You must have a passion for using local produce to create and cook seasonal menus. and have experience handling volume production and delivering the high-quality products that our customers will come to expect. You will also be required to be a committed team player with staff development as a priority for this role as we are always stronger together in any community team.
Ideally, you will:
- Have previous experience in a similar role.
- Have the ability and temperament to work in a busy kitchen environment under pressure
- Have the ability to lead, focus and multi-task
- Be a strong and committed team player
- Have excellent interpersonal skills
- Take pride in your work and produce homemade style food utilising local produce as far as possible
- Have experience of menu development & costings to ensure profit margins are achieved
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene & record keeping
- The ability to complete live demos from time to time will be expected within your development for this role.
Prior to opening you will be based in our Darvel Hub responsible for:
Overseeing and participating in the continued production of emergency meal provision in response to COVID
Planning and piloting commercial food provision for online ordering and collection
Establishing menus and systems for the new Hub
Consistently meeting standards to comply with food legislation
Collaborating with our gardeners to establish a kitchen garden
Staff training and development
The hours of this role are 40 hours, 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis covering breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas with the flexibility when required for an evening / function service
Due to the location of the site and the hours of work, you should have your own transport.
Package will depend on experience and working knowledge we are excited about finding the right person and the salary will support this.
Holiday entitlement will be 25 days plus 8 Public Holidays
